FOTD // Everyday Simple Dew

As-Salaamu Alaikum
Peace Be Upon You

It’s been an incredibly long time since I shared a new FOTD and that’s purely because I genuinely stick to the same things and not a lot changes haha.

I’ve always been intrigued by heavy makeup and blended eyeshadows, but I know this is a look that isn’t for me. I feel like it’s overdone and ageing.

If you don’t know who @Namvo is, get to know! She’s the ultimate queen of perfecting that orgasmic skin glow! Now as much as I love a good dewy dumpling look as seen here in this [p o s t], I also love a good dewy skin and natural, wearable glow.

I like to keep things simple with my makeup and hopefully this is what shines through in my recent looks!

It all starts off with PREPPING the skin first.

TONER  ||  The Ordinary – Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution
FACIAL OIL  ||  Elemis – Cellular Recovery Skin Bliss Capsules
MOISTURISER  ||  Origins – Ginzing Ultra-Hydrating Energy-Boosting Cream

Then we move onto the makeup…

FOUNDATION  ||  Georgio Armani – Luminous Silk Foundation – 6.25
PRIMER  ||  Charlotte Tilbury – Wonderglow
CONCEALER  ||  Nars – Creamy Radiant Concealer – Ginger
EYEBROWS  ||  Anastasia Beverly Hills – Dipbrow Pomade – Medium Brown
CONTOUR  ||  Nars – Tahiti Bronzer – Laguna
BLUSHER  ||  Illamasqua – Powder Blush – Ambition
MASCARA  ||  Lancome –  Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara – Black
LIP LINER  ||  Nars – Velvet Lip Liner – Patong Beach
LIPSTICK  ||  Ciate x Oliva Palermo – Satin Kiss Lipstick – Praline
FINISHING SPRAY  ||  Pearlessence – Hydrating Face Mist – Coconut Rose

You’ll see I’ve not listed a lot products and there’s no sign of a highlighter or finishing/baking powder – that is intentional. I’m trying to minimise the glitter bakey-cakey look and keep things simple and quick, at the end of the day this is an every day look. Occasionally, I’ll wear eyeliner only if I have the time to do so. Otherwise this is it, this is me.

The picture below is in sunset lighting after I’ve finished a 9-hour shift at work, thought I’d show how the make up looks and be real about it. As you can see the under eye has started to crease in a fair amount and oxidise ever so lightly, in my opinion, I just think a lot of the darkness and greys comes out. Also, I’ve only had to touch up lips throughout the day. I’ve not re-sprayed my face so the foundation and primer have been amazing in retaining that hydrated dewy glow.

Overall, I’m pleased with my everyday makeup look, it’s a quick, realistic and youthful – just how I like it! 🙂

I hope you enjoyed this post and found it helpful. I enjoying talking about makeup and I’m currently working my way through my own stash before purchasing and reviewing more 🙂

Until my next post xoxo

ADVICE || Buh-bye 2018.

As-Salaamu Alaikum
Peace Be Upon You

Now as I say bye-bye 2018, I say it in the voice of my little one: Buh-byeee 2018.

This year for me has been so weird. Of course I’m blessed of all that I have and own and I’m privileged and grateful for all that I have. However, it’s also a year whereby I feel like I have done absolutely nothing. I felt like my days were on constant repeat. Nothing new, or self-empowering or motivating. I didn’t do a whole lot for me.

I recently updated my iPhone 6 and it’s disgustingly shocking just how much I pick up my phone and use it. The feature that shares how often you use your iPhone is absolutely shocking and one which I intend to change.

A lot of my actions were money motivated and it was definitely needed this past year from moving apartments to managing our little one. We’re at a stable environment and one that provides comfort, reassurance and security.

In 2019, my focus is to be kind to my body.

// to take a bit of care, time and effort to look good – for myself more than anything else. Now not in a vain, self-obsessed way but I’ve really let myself go this past year. It would be good for my self-esteem and confidence to take pride in how I look and I treat myself.

Although I will continue to be a hardworking mother and partner, I genuinely want to put in more me time and not feel guilty for taking that time off for me. Mom guilt is real and it follows me everywhere, haha – I struggle to enjoy things for me.

Throughout 2019, I want to share more words of encouragement, positivity and endearment. Show people, I care and appreciate their efforts. I’d like to be more self-less and give back more – get involved.

Overall, this year I will be starting my journey of self-improvement. I will do more for me. I will stand up for me. I will also give back, sit back and reflect. Take it easy and not jump or rush into things. I will figure out what it is that I want to do for me and go for it guns blazing.

Now I’ve put my words out there into the system, I am calling my happiness into existence. I am speaking my affirmations into reality and I will follow that up with actions. It’ll truly be interesting to see how it all comes to light at the end of the year, when I come back with a follow up post.

Sharing love, positivity and prayers.

Until my next post xoxo

VIDEO || A literal DITL of ME

As-Salaamu Alaikum
Peace Be Upon You

My life is settled. It’s at a calm. So what does that mean you ask? It means more VLOGGING!

Now, I’ve always enjoyed blogging and vlogging but only if it brings me peace and joy to do so. I don’t force it. I don’t have a routine and sadly I’ve not been consistent, but I’d like to change that. In 2019, I’d like to be more present offline and online, create that fine balance where I get on with life but share the bits I love and do what I love.. and that’s to create content – consistently.

It’s nice to reflect back on old videos and blogposts, to see how far I’ve come, what I’ve accomplished and to see what’s changed. For me it’s a visual diary, a time capsule and I’m happy I do it, even if it’s not on the regular. For all you OG readers and subscribers, thank you, thank you for taking the time to show you love and say Hi, I do notice you and I’m thankful that even one of you watch me, even if it is now and again.

So here we start 2019, with a simple DITL video of moi and what I get up to on a very typical day off. The cafe we went to is Oak Caffe in Whestone, London – you have to try their Caramel Nutty Latte, it’s to-die-for.

I hope you enjoy watching these video and if you would like to see anything from me, feel free to leave recommendations! I’ll be sharing a lot more to come, In Sha Allah.

Oh and the image above is a clearer image of my makeup in good lightening, I’ve already discussed the makeup, over on my Instagram (linked below) where I’m obsessing over the foundation! Come over and share your thoughts on it, is it a yay or nay?

Until my next post xoxo

LIFE // Full time work and parenthood.

As-Salaamu Alaikum
Peace Be Upon You

I applaud all you mommies and daddies who are working full time and part time along side parenthood. We all know being a parent is a full time job in itself: the long nights, feeds and upkeep of a family and household in itself is exhausting and tiring, but quite frankly not rewarding financially.

Image result for exhausted mom gifMy situation is as follows, I get zero help from family and the only government handout we’re entitled to and claim is Child Benefit (approx £80 a month, but isn’t everyone entitled to this?). As such I’m forced back into the working system to ensure there’s a roof over our heads and bellies are being fed. Don’t get me wrong Isa’s daddy DOES work… but one paycheque is just not enough to get by. We need to hustle together collectively, in order to continue to rent our flat and save that extra bit on the side for “the future” – a phrase I hear often and yet still sounds so distant.

As Isa’s growing older and becoming increasingly alert of his surrounding, I’m starting to feel more and more guilty about not being at home during the week. Seeing him grow, laugh, play and change, just hanging out with him are a few of the things I miss out on. I enjoy the pictures and videos his dad sends me but you can’t help get that pang of guilt – is this what mom guilt feels like? By the time I come home around 7pm it’s dinner, bath and bedtime. It’s a limited amount of time to chill with him, so I’m missing his quirky behaviour.

I work five days a week during the day doing 9 hour shifts. His dad on the other hand also full time, works nights so we can both maximise our paycheques without getting daycare which would have dented our wallets by £1k per month if we opted for this. Finding safe and suitable childcare is so expensive and one as young parents we cannot afford to do. As such our time and energy is exhausted, more so on Isa’s dads part as he works night and rushes home to take over throughout the day when I’m working… he barely gets a lot of sleep and I also feel guilty for this. But it’s our situation and we have chosen to take our life through this direction.Image result for full time gifI am a full time working mom. It’s hard out here for start up parents, I do wish the system was a bit fairer or that society was a bit more forgiving. I understand that having a child is a personal choice and I wouldn’t change it for the world, unexpected or otherwise. My advice to you new parents-to-be, would be save and prepare as much as you can for your babies, it’ll relieve a lot of the initial stress and you may just enjoy what parenthood has to offer.

After 9 months of maternity and almost 9 months back at work full time, I’m still figuring it out, managing and learning how to balance this new life without feeling overwhelmed and over the edge. Right now, I’m trying various methods to to cope but overall my trusty checklist and tick boxes seem to be doing the job for now and easing that dreadful feeling called ‘worry‘.

If any of you working mama’s out there have any tips and tricks on how to cope, juggle and balance it all, please let me know! What’s your tips for being a friend to your future self and how do you get rid of that working mommy guilt? Hope to hear from you all soon.

TRY ON || L’OREAL X ISABEL MARANT

As-Salaamu Alaikum
Peace Be Upon You

Hi guys, you won’t believe it – Saf’s only done it again! She’s let me review an amazing makeup collab and only gone and sent me six lipsticks from the L’oreal Paris X Isabel Marant limited edition collection. When she shared her mail unboxing on Instagram and shared this collection, I mentioned how these reds and neutrals look so wearable, especially against my golden skintone and dark lips, it was a collection I was personally excited to try becuase in my opinion the Balmain collection was a disappointment as they wearn’t as wearable as I thought they’d be when I went to view it in person. But this collection on the other hand is so stunning and wearable.

I’ve always been a fan of red lips, I think this comes from my mom as she’s always been a red lip wearer and one iconic look I know her for. So I’m pleased to have found nude and red lipsticks which suit my complexion as well as my two toned lips. My upper lip is dark whilst my lower lip is quite pink.

The quote that was picked out for the packaging, quite frankly does make me smile, and definitely sets you off with self-confidence and a strong attitude. I love how a lipstick makes me feel complete and finishes off a look.

The packaging reminds me of Nars as it has that luxe rubber casing, but visually much more pleasing to look at as it’s coated with a gold bullet interior.

I received six out of seven lipsticks from the collection (below left to right) we have:
BASTILLE WHISTLE  ||  a soft nude, quite sheer in application
LA SEINE SHADOW  || a nude with mauve-pink undertones
PIGALLE WESTERN  || a bright pink-toned red
PALAIS ROYAL FIELD  ||  a bright cherry red
LA BUTTE MARSHALL  || a classic maroon
BELLEVILLE RODEO  || a deep burgandy red with a hint of bourbon

I’m missing SAINT GERMAIN ROAD but it’s all good, it’s just another red suitable for all.
Now I love red lips, it’s such a quick, bold, clean look for that extra pop 💋 I usually gravitate more towards the maroon and burgandies… the darker reds. But from the whole collection I absolutely adored PIGALLE WESTERN because it’s the brightest red I wore and one which I was scared to try and genuinely thought I would dislike, but turned out to be the opposite! I’m really pleased to have come across this colour and be given the opportunity to swatch and try it out for you.

Below I have taken images of the lipsticks as well as swatches first without flash and then with. P.S. I’m aware my lipstick swatches aren’t the best and for this I’m sorry! I triedddd!

The lipsticks are very soft and creamy when applied, they’re not 100% opaque, but the colour is very buildable and layerable. They’re infused with Camelia Oil, which helps explain the softness. The lipsticks bleed a lot, so lipliners are a definite must!  They’re really long lasting except when you eat, they most definitely come off and transfer, but that’s expected with such a creamy formula.

For the purpose of try-on-swatches (below) I did not use any lipliners as I wanted to show the lipstick colours in their truest forms. I’ve shown them in the same order as listed in the swatches above!

And that my lovelies is the end of the post! I hope you enjoyed seeing the try-on-swatches, let me know if they’re useful!

I genuinely belive, the colours in the range are absolute classics, all of which ooze Parisian chic, defying style and time! So you definitely won’t be disppointed with whats offered.

They’re currently retailing at £9.99, however, I’ve found them on sale [here] for £6.95 each.

OH, and if you don’t follow [Safiyah Tasneem] already, what are you doing? She’s definitely my ultimate swatch queen – and someone who totally needs to give me swatching lessons – LOL! I’ve previously, done a guest post on her blog [here] where I reviewed PUR cosmetics, go have a read and support her if you don’t already.

LIFE // One year of motherhood.

As-Salaamu Alaikum
Peace Be Upon You

Yup, that’s right, my little boy turned one on August 08th, Alhamdulillah for everything!

Motherhood, for me personally didn’t start out easy at all – I felt lonely, confused and just overall struggled  – you can read all about it [here]. However, come through the 6-month stage, I had a full 180 turnaround and had a bit of a whirlwind moment from then on. Why? because all of a sudden, he became a little mister, a little boy full of so much character and confidence it’s been hilarious, lovely and enjoyable to watch him grow since. I also think it helps that he now sleeps through the night (alhamdulillah) so I’m able to sleep easy too. This has definitely been a blessing for me as I know it easily could have been worse, but I thank Allah daily for my little blessings.

I thought I’d share this post as a quick reflection of motherhood to date and also share 2 of my favorite pictures of Isa throughout the year 🙊. The first picture shown was taken on Eid-ul-Fitr and the second picture was taken at my cousin’s mehndi. He’s just such a smiley, happy, cheeky little monkey and I do love him to bits (Allahuma Barik). I’ll stop the gushing here!
Now this time last year, as I mentioned was a whirlwind, as I truly cannot remember how the time flew by, how maternity whizzed passed and now I’m back to my full-time desk job trying to fit in endless brunches, blogging and life experiences with Isa in the small spare time I have, oh and not  forgetting to mention squeezing in family and friends and making sure there’s still mommy and daddy time all whilst maintaining a home. The first world life is truly a juggling act.

I took 9 months off work (basically up until the pay finished) and towards the end of it, just as I was due to go back to work is when I truly got into the swings and ‘routine’ of motherhood. In terms of getting up and gettings things done with a positive mind frame and not feeling overwhelmed by anything. Now as much as you try and stick to a routine it won’t always go exactly to plan and that’s okay, I allowed my days to have flexibility and structure without it being rigid – this meant I was then in the moment, in my surroundings and able to give 100% attention to the NOW. This change in motion meant I was also able to enjoy Isa and in turn gain more life experiences.

Prior to being Isa’s mommy, it was just me, I was a superficial version of me who just wanted ‘things’ – meaningless things. What Isa did, was give me life. Motherhood really does bring out the life in you and it’s no longer about trying to get the latest makeup or climb the corporate career ladder in an unknown destination.

Don’t get me wrong, throughout this whole journey, I almost lost my identity for a hot second, and then I was reminded that I too was growing and evolving into this new found identity. I’m now working on my mommy self and feel like I’ve got that locked down mentally but just working on myself physically still (lol). I did not give two thoughts about trying to loose weight whilst on maternity, and all those brunching days over maternity have definitely caught up to me so now it’s time to get fit (watch this space!). I’m also incorporating more ‘me time‘ in, to ensure I stay sane, haha.

Ultimately, what I want to finish off with, is that for all you new time mommies, it really is true what they say – it does get easier! Except for the poo, I still cannot deal with it, the more they eat exotic foods, the smellier it gets LOL. Joke’s aside, you truly will have energy, fun, and laughter as the time goes on. For the moment, just be in the NOW. Put the phone and the camera down, turn the telly off and just enjoy being with your baby and watching them grow.

I do hope you enjoyed catching up and if you’d like to see more from me, then stick around and follow me here or you can subscribe to me over on youtube.

P.S. I do hope that this post has helped explain why my posts and videos have been a bit sparse over the last few months, I was still adjusting and just enjoying the moment.

Until my next post xoxo

LIFE // Septum Piercing Update

As-Salaamu Alaikum
Peace Be Upon You

Thought I’d share my septum journey with along with some tips shared at the bottom of the post.

On 29th June, approx 5pm, I came out of Camden station and took a right into the hustle and bustle that is Camden walked for literally less than a minute and then took the first left into Inverness Street Market. Because there on the corner stood a guy with a big arrow indicating that there was a piercings parlor nearby, bingo!

I got my septum piercing done at Nemesis Tatto & Body Piercing on

A lady called Magda did my piercing and she was super friendly and really pretty with all her piercings and tattoo’s on show – definitely a living walk of art. She spoke in a way that made you feel calm and she was really knowledgeable and confident in what she was saying and doing so it made you feel at ease and comfortable.

Laying there on the sterile bed, the first step she did was clean and sterilise the area where the piercing was going to be. She then clamps it, now this is where my heart started pounding because the cold clamps felt big. Next, she needles through – now for me, this is the bit that really hurts, but doesn’t at the same time. It just felt slow even though it wasn’t. It was definitely an outer body experience for me, where it’s like I can see Magda piercing me – so in that sense it felt even more painful and slow. Once the needles through, she then wiggles the bullring through and screws the ball on the end to secure it – this part hurts a little also because of all the wriggly movement. But the overall reality was that it was a very quick process.

So technically this is my second septum piercing as the first one closed up a couple of years ago. Reason: I got ill and couldn’t blow my nose, so I got irritated and took the ring out. Sadly, it was too soon to take the ring out and I couldn’t fit it back in the wonky whole so eventually, it somewhat closed up.

Now when Magda, pierced my nose this time around, somehow it went through this very same hole. This very same wonky hole. Now Magda being the ever-so professional was disappointed to see it had done this and she was worried this was a reflection of her work. I reassured her that actually, it was a wonky piercing from beforehand.

She was adamant I let her re-do the piercing as she wouldn’t want to let me out of her hands with a wonky piercing. Now what I genuinely appreciated about Magda was her concern and professionalism over the matter, I felt like I was in safe hands, so continued the process to redo it again, then and there.

& that kids is the story of how I got my septum piercing 😀

A F T E R C A R E //
I guess each piercing has it’s own aftercare instructions, for me it was to create a quick saline solution with sterile water (boiling water cooled down) and 1/4 teaspoon of salt and swab it around the piercing.

Key instructions are not to mess or play with the septum piercing. For me, this was incredibly hard, as I enjoy fiddling with it and flicking it in and out. As long as you don’t mess with your piercing and clean it often it should heal well within 4/6 weeks.

Now I have a baby, and my little one has already grabbed at the septum and head-butted/ whacked me in the nose, which isn’t great at all in terms of healing. Regardless, it’s still healing well. The initial pierce doesn’t swell up or bruise, only the tip of the nose feels sore but you can’t see anything.

To recap: do your research on the piercing and location of where you want to get the piercing done (make sure they’re licensed), keep the area well clean, don’t interfere with the area, have you’re piercing done at a time where you won’t be blowing your nose all the time (for example, stay away from winter were you’re more likely to get ill and avoid hayfever season), oh and allow 6 weeks time for the piercing to heal well.

I think I’ve touched upon all you need to know on septum piercings so if you have any questions let me know and I’ll be sure to address them sharpish! In the meantime, feel free to enjoy the following pictures of me 4 years ago when I first had the piercing done just so you can see how I ‘styled‘ it.

I hope you genuinely enjoyed this post, if you’d like to hear my opinions or experiences on anything then let me know!

Until my next post xoxo
